On Easter Day, April 16th, 2006 HighlandsChurch held a 9am Sunrise Service. This first worship service brought over 180 people from the local community to a hillside that was then referred to as "The Hill Across From Walmart." Because of the unconventional 9am time for having a Sunrise Service, Highlands was quickly identified as the "out-of-the-box" church.
The very next Sunday highlands had it's first regular Sunday meeting at the Park Cinemas, a commercial movie theater in downtown Paso Robles, CA. The adventureland childrens' ministry had three kids on that first day and 57 adults attended the first service.
With a strong emphasis on connecting real, everyday people with God, highlands had multiple community outreach activities that summer. By the Fall of 2006 highlands church was a vibrant new community, devoted to following Jesus Christ.
Since those first Sundays Highlands has begun construction on it's first church buildings...in the same field where the first worship service took place. Construction is projected for completion in September of 2008, with place for 300 people to worship and multiple classroom spaces forboth children and adults.
